In the example to the left the designer deckled the photo to create two outward facing rips. The deckled image was then applied into Photoshop. The areas outside the deckle are applied into Photoshop as transparency.
Once the deckled version of the image was applied into Photoshop the designer placed it on top of a desaturated copy of the original image.
There are dozens of creative ways to use Deckle to add a touch of interest to your designs.
Deckle can be applied using a mask selection or the bezier path tool. In the example below the designer created a type selection on a background texture layer and then applied the deckle to the selection. You can also deckle irregular shapes such as the outline of a masked image or object.
Deckle is great for tearing the edges of photos, creating rips along the side of an image or even tearing holes in a photo or paper.
Deckle gives you complete control over the fiber length, size, color, image bleed, frequency and other important aspects of this effect.
